Dear WordPress,
I am so sorry that I have neglected you like have lately. You don’t deserve it. You are not lesser of my blogs nor the lesser of the blog hosts. So take this post and share….
So, what adventures have the Ewert’s been having lately? Well, to be honest the most exciting ones live only in my head and heart. And I can only hope that one day I will be able to write about biking along the River Cam, stopping at farm markets, and going to Edinburgh for the weekend. aaahhhhhh…..
Oh right, Three Hills. I must start by saying this: as summer is drawing to a close, I have done some reflecting on our current state, you know, living in the frozen tundra. And I have concluded that life in Three Hills…get ready for it…is actually way better than I ever expected (not that I expected much.) We have great friends…who love great food. Jakob has great friends and Ella has all the support she could ever need. We have a warm house, we make our own fun, and romance the heck out of life. Yup, you can quote me on that.
Anyway, after a great trip out to the coast we savoured the last of the summer days and started planning for Autumn. We have a full schedule, which is the way I function best. We will see if my children are the same.
Ben- he is still the Director of the Arts Academy which means that he is preparing for lessons, productions and ensembles. A new addition to the schedule (maybe) is conducting the PBI Choir. Auditions were today and there were a mere 15 people who tried out, so time will tell. I saw someone post on Facebook today about the presidential tour. The primary purpose of this tour is to rally “raving fans”. Its kinda sad though, that all I hear in my head is “Raving Fans of what!?!” The Prairie that we all know to endorse doesn’t exist. How can you be a fan of something you have no idea about? Okay sorry, rabbit trail #1
We also did our annual hike up to the tea house at Lake Louise, here is just a snapshot of that trip.
The road has been rocky with Ella lately ( in the best rocky way possible that is). It is just that through summer we hit some developmental walls that you can read about here. They left me quite frustrated and feeling very defeated. We met with the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist however, to address these specific issues and I feel that we are starting to see progress again. Some key milestones: Ella did her first sign at the beginning of this week. Of course it was “more.” And then today, I went into her room and there she was - sitting up in her crib. I know that this seems long past due but for some reason it was a step that got missed, and she just never figured it out….until today.
This morning was Ella’s first PREP Class. We have been anticipating this for some time now. It was great! Stories, singing, colouring, gym time and mystery boxes. She tends to get overwhelmed easily in big groups and seizes up captured by all of the action. So even though it may not be the place to develop in her motor skills, I think she needs to learn to function in a class. (I will say, it isn’t that she doesn’t like to be around other children, in fact, she LOVES watching other kids, but now she needs to get comfortable joining in).
Tonight we went to PCA preschool open house. Jakob was sold at the first center…a sandbox….inside! Not to mention play dough AND CARS! which he tried to stuff in his pockets and take home. Needless to say, any fears that he might not dig it, vanished. Between Preschool and swimming lessons this fall promises to be the best life has ever been.
Oh me? I’d rather not. But as I said, I have great friends…who love great food. So I went and bought a gym pass today….

i love reading about joy and living in the present moment… xo.
(but, i’d also weekend in edinbugh with you!)
Yeah for Ella!! Thanks for sharing so candidly. Love reading your blogs.
I love that Ella’s first sign was “more” – she’s her beautiful mother’s daughter! The thing – well, one of the things – that I love about you is that you don’t “settle” for mediocrity when you could be striving for more: more beauty, more joy, more culture, more innovation, more balance, more meaning, more opportunity for good.
“Less is more”? Pshaw!!
PS: And I am striving to have more tea-time with Krista! Maybe when I get back?
Such gorgeous pictures x
